North Yarmouth Academy Hockey Program

Founded in 1814, North Yarmouth Academy (NYA) is a coeducational, college-preparatory day school serving students from early childhood through grade 12, with an optional postgraduate year. North Yarmouth Academy is located on a 20-acre campus in the coastal town of Yarmouth, Maine, which is just a short drive from Portland.
As a classic New England preparatory school, NYA draws students who are eager to take on academic challenges while thriving in an environment where commitment, effort, and personal growth are valued and celebrated. In terms of hockey programming, the NYA Girls Hockey Team competes in the NEPSAC’s Vaillancourt Conference where they have won the conference championship the past two years. As a member of the Holt Hockey Conference, the Boys Hockey Team won the Holt Conference Championship in 2019 & 2020.
Varsity teams compete against top-tier prep schools in a highly competitive 30 to 32 game schedule, providing valuable exposure to college scouts and recruiters. The NEPSAC is widely recognized as a key pipeline to collegiate and professional hockey, and student athletes often see a significant boost in their recruitment as a direct result of the league's visibility and reputation.
On and off the ice, Panther hockey players benefit from a close-knit, family-like atmosphere, experienced coaching, personalized strength and conditioning programs, and access to on-campus facilities. These include their own rink, top-tier locker rooms, and full support services like skate sharpening and laundry, creating an environment where student athletes can thrive. The Travis Roy Ice Arena recently underwent renovations and is a state-of-the-art hockey facility located conveniently on campus.
Beginning in the 2025–2026 academic year, NYA will offer on-campus residential housing, creating an exciting new option for student athletes from across the country. NYA is purchasing a building adjacent to campus, with the sale expected to close in mid-May 2025. This new dormitory is designed specifically for student life, featuring 14 suites that house 2 to 4 students each. Every suite includes a private bathroom, storage, and 450 to 650 square feet of living and study space—ideal for balancing rest, recovery, and academics.
The building will include 2,365 square feet of common areas for dining, studying, socializing, and team gatherings. These shared spaces are designed to help student athletes connect with peers, build community, and grow outside of their sport. The facility will also include four faculty apartments for dorm parents who will live on-site and provide constant support. NYA’s residence life staff will lead structured evening and weekend programming, ensuring students remain engaged, balanced, and supported at all times.
