Academy Introduction Mission at The United States Coast Guard Academy
The United States Coast Guard Academy offers the Academy Introduction Mission (AIM), a one-week summer program designed to immerse rising high school seniors in the life of a cadet. Recognized as one of the most realistic service academy orientation programs, AIM challenges participants both mentally and physically, providing a comprehensive overview of the Academy's rigorous environment. Throughout the week, attendees engage in early morning cadet routines, academic classes, physical fitness training, and team-building exercises, all aimed at testing their resolve and adaptability. This intensive experience helps students assess their suitability for a future at the USCGA and a career dedicated to service.
For the 2025 AIM program, the USCGA has scheduled three on-campus sessions:
Session I: July 6–11
Session II: July 13–18
Session III: July 20–25
Additionally, a virtual session is available on July 29–30 for those unable to attend in person. The application process opened on February 8th and closes on April 1st, with selection decisions released by May 5th. Given the program's competitive nature, early application is encouraged. Of the student athletes that I’ve advised throughout my career, those that have attended AIM have all gone on to attend the Coast Guard Academy and play their respected sport as a member of their Division III Athletics Program which competes in the NEWMAC.
Participating in AIM offers prospective cadets a unique opportunity to experience the challenges and rewards of life at the Coast Guard Academy. Beyond the physical and academic demands, attendees gain insights into the Academy's core values and mission, fostering personal growth and a deeper understanding of what it means to serve. This firsthand exposure is invaluable for students contemplating a commitment to the Coast Guard and seeking to determine if the Academy aligns with their personal and professional goals. For interested underclassmen in high school, now is a great time to begin expanding upon your academic, athletic, and leadership qualities in preparation for applying to AIM as juniors.
