The United States Air Force Academy Summer Seminar
The United States Air Force Academy offers a Summer Seminar program designed to provide high school juniors with a firsthand experience of cadet life. This immersive, four-day program allows participants to live in cadet dormitories, dine in the cadet dining facility, and explore academic facilities and research labs. Guided by upper-class cadet mentors, attendees gain insight into the Academy's rigorous academic and military environment, helping them assess their fit for a future at USAFA.
The Summer Seminar is held annually in June, with three sessions typically offered. For example, the 2025 sessions are scheduled as follows:
Session A: June 3-6
Session B: June 10-13
Session C: June 16-19
Applications open on December 1 and close on January 15. Selection is based on a comprehensive review of each applicant's academic performance, leadership potential, and extracurricular involvement. Historically, more than 3,200 students apply annually, with approximately 640 selected to attend. Although the application is closed for high school students in the class of 2026, it is a good idea for current sophomores and even interested freshmen to begin positioning themselves academically, athletically, and extracurricularly (yes, that's a real word!) to apply as juniors for future seminars.
Participating in the Summer Seminar offers prospective cadets a valuable opportunity to experience the challenges and rewards of life at the Air Force Academy. While attendance is not a prerequisite for admission, it provides a unique perspective on the Academy's programs and expectations. Additionally, attendees can participate in workshops designed to assist with the application process, offering guidance on navigating the path to becoming a cadet. The hands-on experience and opportunity for prospective applicants to work with access to the admissions team at the Air Force Academy can be invaluable when navigating the appointment and application process.
